Manchester United have reignited their interest in Ivan Rakitić
During Luis Enrique’s final season in charge, Ivan Rakitić was going through a bad spell of form and was linked with a move to José Mourinho’s Manchester United. After Lucho left the club, the transfer fell through and Rakitić returned to top form under Ernesto Valverde.
But Manchester United have reignited their interest in the 30-year old Croatian midfielder after taking note of his recent performances for Croatia against Nigeria and Argentina in the World Cup. The Red Devils have approached him with an offer.

United are willing to offer Rakitić a huge signing bonus of €12 million, which is more than the amount that was being offered to him two seasons ago. Manchester United are also preparing a bid of €40 million for the playmaker.
Ivan Rakitić may be threatened by the fact that the club is going after midfielders like Miralem Pjanić and Frenkie de Jong, who may displace him in the first-team if they sign for the club. And while that is true, Rakitić is too important a figure in the squad to be left languishing on the bench.
Rakitić was the most consistent performer for the team last season. The club cannot afford to lose a player of his experience. The management should figure out a roadmap towards keeping Rakitić at the Camp Nou.
And even if the club decides that it doesn’t need Rakitić anymore, it should be demanding a fee that is above his market value, in the area of €60 million, so that it can fund the signing of an adequate replacement.
