Following Antoine Griezmann’s announcement of farewell to Atletico Madrid, Barcelona are in pole position to land him during the summer.
France international Antoine Griezmann announced via Atletico de Madrid’s official Facebook handle that he would be leaving the club during the summer after five years. In an emotional video, Griezmann said that he seeks a new challenge and thanked the club and its fans for their support over the half decade which he spent in Spain’s capital. The Catalans have been linked with a move for the Frenchman for a long time and were extremely close to signing him last summer. However, Antoine Griezmann made a dramatic documentary called The Decision in which he committed his future to Atletico Madrid and pledged loyalty to the Rojiblancos and their fans.
However, within eleven months of that infamous documentary, Antoine Griezmann feels that it is time to move on. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are considered to be the three sides hunting for him. While the former two have been interested recently, the Red Devils have been monitoring the Atletico forward since a long time.
According to Sport, L’Equipe has revealed the details of Antoine Griezmann’s mammoth contract at the Camp Nou. Firstly, his release clause will drop from 200 million euros to 120 million euros on the 1st of July and that will be the transfer fee which Josep Maria Bartomeu will potentially pay for the forward’s services. His wages are as handsome as his transfer fee.
Antoine Griezmann will be signing a five year deal at the Camp Nou and would earn 17 million euros annually. The base wage is a drop from what Griezmann earned during his time Atletico Madrid in 21 million euros, but it is expected that he will cash in on higher sums from an overall point of view with Barcelona’s influence on sponsorships and marketing.
Do you think Antoine Griezmann deserves a wage of 17 million euros?
