Barcelona superstar close to parting ways with the club

Once a key member of the side, Rakitic is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he has been replaced. At least that is what is suggesting but it is true on many levels.

What’s more disappointing for the Croatian is that he has to leave Barcelona where he wanted to end his career. His five and half year stay at the club has been fruitful for him as well as the club. However, it seems that the 31 year-old has finally understood that he needs to leave the club if he needs some play time.

Rakitic received an unbelievable offer from PSG in the summer of 2018 but he rejected it because of his love for the club. Moreover, Valverde’s words of Rakitic being an irreplaceable player at the club and Bartomeu’s assurance of him getting an improved and a ‘lifelong’ contract convinced him to stay.

However, everything changed this year when Barca decided to snap the Dutch Wonderkid in Frenkie de Jong for £75 million from AFC Ajax. Rightly termed as the future of Football and of Barca, his stay at Barca has proved to be a disaster for Rakitic as he has started only once ever since de Jong arrived.

With the focus being shed on improving the younger pool of players and grooming them for the future, it is highly unlikely that Valverde would want Rakitic in his starting XI rather than someone who is 9 years younger to him. Rakitic has now understood this and has started to consider a move away from Barca as an option.

Next: Barca forward not included in future plans

Rakitic has been a loyal and a great servant to the club and the least the management could do is let him go as he doesn’t fit into their future plans. Moreover, Manchester United and Juventus are already looking to buy him and have started their preparations to land the Croatian. Barcelona should consider the offer they get for Rakitic as that is what he deserves.
