Barcelona continues to chase massive signings for this summer but already have 11 players who could be great additions to the existing squad.
The effect of the COVID-19 crisis can be financially felt by all clubs in Europe with Barcelona being no exception. All the clubs know that the next summer transfer window will witness more transfer by the means of player exchange rather than the usual cash flow.
Knowing this, Barca must plan their future spending and transfer negotiations, especially considering they have eleven players spread across the continent that are available to either be loaned, sold, or even included in Quique Setien‘s plan.
There are currently 10 footballers that are loaned out.
Philippe Coutinho (Age: 27 | Bayern Munich)
Barca got a huge blow when Bayern Munich refused the option to sign Coutinho permanently for 120 million euros. The midfielder will return to Camp Nou as his current contract runs until 2023. The club have transfer-listed the former Liverpool star as he has shown the desire to make a return to the Premier League but any suitable buyer must be willing to pay the 100 million euro that is outstanding to Liverpool.
Jean-Clair Todibo (Age: 20 | Schalke 04)
Todibo has displayed some great performances for Schalke this season and the Bundesliga side are contemplating the purchase option currently attached to the loan deal. Barca are asking for 25 million euro, a reasonable amount for the talented centre-back, but the financial crisis faced by the German side due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made this option inaccessible.
Rafinha Alcântara (Age: 27 | Celta de Vigo)
Rafinha had to accept a contract renewal in order to join Celta on loan last year, with the current expiration dated 2021. The Brazilian has been struggling since 2018 after he broke his anterior cruciate ligament of his knee during a match against Atletico Madrid. The 27-year-old has shown a lot of improvement in Celta displaying his confidence and continued effort to improve. Many Premier League and Serie A giants are interested in the midfielder and are keeping a close eye.
Carles Aleña (Age: 22 | Real Betis)
Loaned to Betis in order to continue his development, Alena has truly struggled to showcase his talent due to the outbreak of COVID-19. He has publically displayed his intentions of wanting to return to the Camp Nou and succeed. The suspension of all sporting activities as a result of the outbreak has hindered Alena’s opportunity to prove the Barca board his worth. Originally to return in June, Carles now faces the option of signing for a different club or permanently move to Betis.
Moussa Wague (Age: 21 | OGC Nice)
Despite having played only 5 matches for Nice since his arrival last winter, Wague could have a future at Barca. He showcased his defensive prowess along with having a knack for offensive plays, managing 2 assists. Wague’s future is up for debate as Barca could sell him for a good offer or even keep him as a replacement for the reportedly departing Nelson Semedo.
Juan Miranda (Age: 20 | Schalke 04)
Miranda moved to Bundesliga when he signed a two-year deal with Schalke but has failed to make regular appearances. Juan strongly believes he has improved mentally and has more personality than before. He is willing to hear Quique Setien’s plan for the future but has prioritized to receive playing minutes. Barca are unlikely to fulfill his demands and are looking to make a sale in the summer with Real Betis and PSV Eindhoven showing interest. Barca have already rejected Juventus’s offer for the Spaniard.
Oriol Busquets (Age: 21 | FC Twente)
Several sides from Bundesliga- FC Köln, Mainz, Hamburg and Werder Bremen, have shown their interest in Barcelona’s young midfielder. Even La Liga’s Valladolid, Alaves and Celta are interested in acquiring the prospect. Busquets, however, used his loan opportunity with Dutch side, Twente, to display his immense talent in order to convince Setien to promote him to the first team.
Matheus Fernandes (Age: 21 | Real Vallodolid)
Barca signed the Brazilian from Palmeiras last winter but immediately loaned him to Valladolid. He has yet to feature for the Spanish side and awaits the season restart in order to get a chance to play in the Spanish league. Barca described the midfielder as one with immense defensive qualities and the ability to move the ball from the back. He is a holding midfielder as he has a knack for winning the ball back. It remains to be seen if he will ever get to wear the Barca colors.
Francisco Trincao (Age: 20 | S. C. Braga)
Barca signed the Portuguese international from Braga in January after spending 31 million euros. He is an attacking midfielder but is also versatile in nature. The club are preparing to see him feature for the first team but are also open to continuing his developments elsewhere on loan. Braga president has hailed the talented youngster as a player capable of defining a decade at the Nou Camp. He is signed on a five-year deal with a release clause set at 500 million euros.
Pedri (Age: 17 | Las Palmas)
Pedri, according to Transfermarkt, is the most sought-after player in the Spanish League. He is expected to make his first appearance in Blaugrana colors in the summer. He is likely to be starting off with the B squad but has the option to play elsewhere with Real Sociedad, Celta and Betis showing interest. Barca may even extend his stay with Palmas.
Marc Cucurella (Age: 21 | Getafe CF)
Currently loaned at Getafe, the Madrid based club have the option to sign the midfielder permanently for six million euro. The option remains open until June 30. Before the pandemic, the Spanish side were confident about paying the fee as the two sides had reached an agreement that for any future sale of the player, Getafe will receive 60 percent while 40 percent would go to Barca. The current financial crisis might put this deal on hold as clubs are struggling to make money during this time.
