New Era at Barcelona

Barcelona fans were left heartbroken by Messi’s departure but there may be light at the end of the tunnel for the Catalan club. As the saying goes “rock bottom is a beautiful start”, this couldn’t possibly be more true for FC Barcelona’s current situation.

A new era has begun, with the club showing their intent on how they will be conducting business from now on, signing players on a free or for a bargain with reasonable wages. With the signings of Sergio Agüero, Eric García, and Memphis Depay on a free and also add Emerson Royal for 14 million euros to this list of smart business conducted this summer, a player whom the Catalans have had a co-ownership agreement with Real Betis over.

Going on to sell him to Tottenham Hotspur for 25 million euros, making a profit of 11 million euros. The Camp Nou outfit brought in Luuk de Jong from Sevilla on loan for the season and have the option to get him on a permanent basis . The ex-PSV star has already worked with coach Ronald Koeman, his former national team boss and will provide much-needed cover at Camp Nou. De Jong has earned 38 caps for the Dutch national team since making his debut in 2011.

By the end of the transfer window Barcelona were able to finish with a profit margin of €49.00 million. It is still far from covering their losses but it is definitely a step in the right direction for the Blaugrana.
