Joao Cancelo is still being linked to Barcelona despite Valencia’s reluctance to sell yet another key player to the Blaugranas

Ever since the end of the summer transfer window, the young Portuguese has been linked with Barcelona . Robert Fernandez had shortlisted him and a few other talents to replace the departing Aleix Vidal in the squad. But Valencia’s reluctance to let yet another player go to the Camp Nou meant the deal was dead. New rumours suggest the right-back is on his way to Barca. Sport’s  Lluis Miguelsanz believes that the deal may go through if Vidal’s exit is confirmed.

But no one can doubt that Cancelo will be right signing for Barca. He has the exact skill-set required for a Barcelona right-back. Cancelo is an aggressive and athletic player. He has the vision and positioning skills to be effective defensively and the stamina to be a force all over the wing. But the Vidal deal has to go through to ensure this signing. This is because his sale would free up some funds and a slot in the squad.

Hector Bellerin pens new deal as Barcelona target Premier League compatriot Cedric from Southampton

The Gunners are looking to finally get one over Barca negotiators as they manage to convince Bellerin to sign a new contract. Barca has been linked with the La Masia graduate for over a year. But this development is expected to put those rumours to rest. Now, Robert can move on to other targets.

Speaking of other right-back targets, a new player is being targeted by Robert. That man is Cedric Soares of Southampton. The German-born Portuguese right-back has performed consistently in the Premier League for Southampton. He shone under Ronald Koeman after arriving from Sporting for a fee of €6.5 million. This season too, he has impressed. He is considered to be a cheap and quality option for Barcelona. We have to see if he gets the nod ahead of Serge Aurier and Joao Cancelo.
