FC Barcelona transfer rumour update- Joao Cancelo and Darijo Srna
The Valencia hierarchy will in Singapore in the coming days to remodel their squad. And Barcelona target Joao Cancelo may be a part of a major clearout.
Valencia CF owner Peter Lim, sporting director Suso Garcia Pitarch and manager Cesare Prandelli are due to meet for an important meeting in Singapore. They will make plans to change things around. They haven’t done very well in recent times, with Suso resigning due to poor performances and Pako Ayestran being sacked for a horrendous start to the season. But now, the club is taking drastic measures to change their fortunes.
It started with the hiring of the experienced Cesare Prandelli. Now that the January transfer window is approaching, the club will make significant changes to the club. They will have a squad clearout, where they will get rid of all the underperforming players, and probably go on a signing spree. The players expected to be on the transfer list are Joao Cancelo, Enzo Perez and Dani Parejo. They have been underperforming in recent games and are expected to be offloaded. Luckily, for Barcelona, Joao Cancelo is high on Robert’s list of priority signings.
Cancelo has been linked with Barcelona for a long time. But the move never materialised. In the summer, Luis Enrique chose to work with Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal in the right-back position. With Sergi Roberto, the success has been OK. But with Vidal, it hasn’t worked out well at all. He performed poorly in the games he was given a chance. This, coupled with his fallout with Lucho, has led to him being considered a deadweight.
That is why Barca need a right-back urgently in the winter. Cancelo’s transfer listing can reduce his price from the earlier stated €25 million. This supposed move by Valencia can be hugely beneficial for Barcelona. Robert can pull off the signing if he can negotiate a reasonable price for Cancelo. Robert shares a healthy relationship with the Valencia board and has dealt with them on various occasions. It is now likely that Joao Cancelo will become a Blaugrana in the summer.

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Paulo Foncesca confirms Barcelona interest in Srna
Barcelona’s interest in veteran right-back has confirmed by Shakhtar coach Paulo Foncesca. He said in a press conference, “I know of the interest,it is not for me to make this decision. We know the importance of Srna to our team and we also know of his importance to the club. He’s spent many years with us, though, and I sincerely hope he doesn’t go.”
Club owner Rinat Akhmetov had also stated that he knew of the interest earlier in the year, when it was only a rumour. He had said, “If Darijo makes such a decision [to go], I will be on his side, he deserves that the club should treat him generously. He is a great person and a great captain who gave his all for Shakhtar. We’ll make sure that we are proud of our decision. It will be as Darijo wishes.”

But the main factor that will decide if Darijo Srna becomes a Blaugrana or not is his own interest in joining the club. He has already stated that he dreams of playing for Barcelona. So, his interest in joining the club true. But would take a lower wage to come to a better club. He bags €4 million per year at Shakhtar, mostly based on reputation rather than ability. But Barcelona are willing to offer just half of that. So, he might reject Barca on the basis of money. But he is a legend yearning for some glory before he hangs up his boots, and he might get just that at the Camp Nou.
