The Spaniard is a through and through ‘Barca DNA’ coach. He employs tactics which suit Barcelona’s tiki-taka philosophy. Ayestaran also has a very good reputation in the footballing world. He has assisted managers like Rafa Benitez and Quique Sanchez Flores. He was a trustee of Benitez, having served under him at Osasuna, Extremadura, Tenerife, Valencia and Liverpool.

Then, after stints with various clubs in different roles, he was appointed manager of Valencia. Ayestaran failed to inspire the failing team and was subsequently sacked. But it does not prove that he is a bad coach (at the highest level). He had a weak team and after him, even Cesare Prandelli is failing. Therefore, he is a good choice for manager of FC Barcelona.
