What Milestone’s can Lionel Messi Reach in 2017?

What can a player that has done everything for his club, Lionel Messi, accomplish in 2017?

Lionel Messi is one of the best talents the sport of football has ever seen. Just when you think he hasn’t done enough, he comes back to amaze his fans even more than they already are. The magician has already accomplished everything as a club player from winning the treble to winning the Club World Cup. However, there are still many things that Messi can still accomplish. The Barca website lists 10 challenges/milestones for Lionel Messi to achieve in 2017. Here are the milestones the Argentine can reach in 2017.

One: Scoring his 500th goal for FC Barcelona

Lionel has 476 goals in competitive games so just needs 24 more to do it. If he can repeat what he did last year, this should be accomplished.

Two: Reach 100 UCL goals

Barca’s number 10 currently has 93 Champions League goals. Seven more would see him hit the century mark.

Three: Game 600

551 games for Barca for number 10. As long as he can stay fit, he should hit 600 this year.

Four: More European Dreams

Messi has won four Champions League titles (’06, ’09, ’11, ’15). He’ll be aiming to make it five in May.

Five: Top Scorer for One European Club

Once again, Messi has scored 476 goals for Barcelona in all competitions. To become Europe’s record goal scorer for a single club, he needs to best Gerd Muller, who has 525 goals for Bayern Munich.

Six: Scoring Against Las Palmas

Messi has scored against every club that is currently in La Liga. That is everyone except Las Palmas. He’ll have the chance to change that on January 14th when they visit the Camp Nou.

Seven: Overseas Goals

Messi has scored 97 goals against foreign sides. He needs three more to get to 100. He will get a chance coming up in the Champions League knockout stages against PSG in February.

Eight: Early starts

Hugo Sanchez scored the opening goal in La Liga games 76 times. Messi is five behind him in that category.

Nine: Victory Milestone

Messi has won in 390 games for Barcelona, in 551 games. 10 more wins would get him to 400.

Ten: Starting Games For Barca

Messi has 484 starts for Barcelona, so 16 more starts will see him get to 500 for his career.

Overall, Messi can reach some of these milestones over the next 12 months. However, some of these thresholds will be difficult to do quickly. However, Messi is sure to make quick work of some milestones as long as he’s healthy. The Argentine has missed some time due to injuries over the past few years. The lesser injuries, the better chance that Barca’s most prolific player can create more history with the club that he’s known for a long time now. We’ll see if the historically great Messi can make more history.
