The Croatian powerhouse is a very good player. He flourished in his first two seasons at the Camp Nou but has struggled this season. His style of play does not suit Luis Enrique’s new direct passing tactics. He has been warming the bench this season and is worried about his future at Barcelona. Manchester City and United are interested in acquiring him and could approach him in the summer.

But despite his poor form this season, Lucho has faith in him. He has asked Robert Fernandez to begin negotiations with Rakitic’s agent to ward off interest from City and United. Rakitic’s current deal expires in 2019 and the club is looking to extend it till 2022. Financially, the new contract will be significantly bigger than his current one. But Rakitic could reject it in search of playing time, which he will certainly get at the Old Trafford and the Etihad.
