The fiasco at the Camp Nou regarding Lionel Messi’s contract is set to come to an end as Sport reports that he is ‘satisfied’ with the agreement that has taken place. Many top European clubs were reportedly interested in him but he rejected all offers. Now that Barcelona have tabled a new proposal for him, he might accept. His father and advisor, Jorge Messi was confident that Messi would stay at Barca and his wish will probably come true. Leo Messi will get a huge wage package, jumping ahead of Oscar and Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest paid player in the game. Although the report from Sport did not state a specific length of the new contract, it would be ’till the end of his sporting career.
The negotiations for Messi’s renewal have taken several bumps in the last few months. The financial situation of the club was extremely delicate. It still is, but the deal with Nike will improve it. The board of directors even sacked Oscar Grau for pointing out the club’s financial troubles. But the president Josep Maria Bartomeu has promised to handle the negotiations personally. And all this toil by the club to retain the best player in the club is starting to pay off. The club will announce this later this month.
