Everton close to signature of Barcelona target Caio Emerson of Corinthians

Barcelona has been scouting the ‘next Neymar’ for over a year now. After emerging as a breakout starlet at Corinthians, he has attracted serious interest from the likes of the Merseyside clubs. Everton and Liverpool are on the lookout for a good young star and might move for him. Barcelona were very close to him in the summer but the deal fell of due to a disagreement between the two clubs. But now, as Emerson’s contract nears expiry, the clubs are looking to swoop.

More from Everything Barca

Barcelona need Emerson badly. La Masia has struggled to produce good forwards in recent times. The last true talented striker produced by the legendary Barcelona youth academy is Munir el Haddadi. He has not been able to live up to expectations despite being given chances. His career as a first-choice forward at the Camp Nou is over. Emerson would rejuvenate Barca ‘B’ and in a couple of years’ time, break into the squad. But according to the Daily Star, he is going to sign for Everton on a Bosman in the summer. The Merseysiders will only have to pay the compensation (£250,000) to Corinthians required to sign an under-21 player on a free transfer. Robert Fernandez will have to move swiftly to capture the signature of the 17-year old maverick striker.
