There has been a dearth of good managers opting to coach an international team. This is evident from the appointments of the managers for England, Italy and Spain. Gareth Southgate, Gian Piero Ventura and Julen Lopetegui are hardly top-notch coaches but have somehow landed international jobs.

Lucho might want to change that. The Spain international team has been detoririating ever since it’s horrible group-stage exit in the 2014 World Cup. Under Lopetegui, the side has shown some improvement but it is still not playing to it’s full potential.

Luis Enrique has ability to rejuvenate this team and bring it back to the pinnacle of international football, just like he did Barcelona after the club suffered a lean period under Gerardo Martino.
