Barcelona have done the impossible winning 6-1 over PSG to advances to the Champions League quarterfinals. Here is the recap and the player ratings for today’s match.*
The Camp Nou was rocking from the first minute on as Barca needed to make the comeback of a lifetime against PSG. The scene was electric. However, heartbreak settled in as the first away goal of the tie was scored. Despite that, Barcelona have done the unthinkable coming back from a 4-0 deficit to win 6-1 against PSG. They now advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. No one gave Barca a chance and rightfully so as PSG dominated the first leg.
An early goal from Luis Suarez gave fans the hope of a miracle. Then, an own goal at the end of the first half gave the Catalans a 2-0 advantage at the break. Lionel Messi scored a penalty to begin the second half to make the match 3-0 and 5-3 PSG on aggregate. An away goal by Edison Cavani effectively ended the tie… at least that’s what everyone thought.
Despite the odds, Barca would score 3 goals in the final 2 minutes plus stoppage time. Neymar scored a 2nd penalty and in addition scored a wonderful free kick to level the tie. However, PSG had the away goal so Barca needed one more. This goal came from an unlikely hero. Sergi Roberto, who came on as a substitute, scored the winning goal in the last-minute of stoppage time to give Barca arguably the greatest comeback in the history of the sport.

The scenes at Camp Nou were amazing. The coaches and players that were on the bench rushed onto the pitch to celebrate the winning goal. A match like this is the reason why I love this sport more than the rest. The emotion of a match of this caliber showed in both teams as PSG needed to hang on and Barca needed to make a comeback. In a match that Barca had to win by scoring at will while playing the best defense possible, the Catalans pulled off the impossible.
Overall, Barca’s effort has to be applauded. From the manager to the players, Barca put themselves in the best position to be successful. In addition, the group that deserves the most credit is the defense and goalkeeper. They held a great attacking group in PSG at bay long enough for Barca to make the comeback on offense. Marc Andre Ter Stegen’s second half save against Cavani was vital in the comeback. Could this match be the point in which the entire Barca season changes for the better. We’ll see, but the team deserves to celebrate for this historic moment in FC Barcelona history.
*These were supposed to be player ratings. Everyone who played, from the starting 11 to the bench, and the manager Luis Enrique gets a 10 because that’s what they had to be: perfect.
