Deulofeu has impressed in his spell on-loan at AC Milan from Everton. Following his removal from the first-team by Ronald Koeman, Robert Fernandez revealed that a clause was present in his Everton contract.

This characterizes Barca’s transfer strategy on young talents. Sell them to another club for a small fee, insert a buy-back clause so that the purchasing club can make a profit. Therefore, when the player develops into one capable of playing for Barcelona, Barca exercise the buy-back clause.

This has occurred in the case of Denis Suarez. It has also been a wise move to insert the clause into Alen Halilovic’s contract.

Robert Fernandez is now looking to exercise the clause for Gerard Deulofeu. This deal will involve a fee of €12 million. After Barca’s 3-2 victory at the Camp Nou, he spoke to TV3 regarding speculation that he would move for Deulofeu.

"He said, “Deulofeu, yes, it’s absolutely an option for the future. The club are considering bringing him back to play for the first team. ”Adriano Galliani had earlier said, “Deulofeu? I have spoke with Barcelona, but I won’t tell you what they said to me.”"

Fernandez’s statement confirms that Barcelona are interested in getting him back. But the Milan CEO Galliani was cagey with the media about his interaction with Barcelona officials.

It is very likely that Deulofeu will return to the Camp Nou this summer.

"He had said, “Yes, any player would have interest in Barcelona. They are the best club in the world and that is something really special. The fact that I grew up in Barcelona’s academy also gives the idea even more a bit of being special. Now, though, I am focused on the matches remaining this season, not on what might come later. I am very flattered. When I left Barca my idea was that I would never return because my transfer [to Arsenal in 2011] was a bit complicated. But like others who say that they left with the idea of returning, I went to have the adventure of England, to try to be a better football player and to not return. But no one knows what the future holds and you can never close any doors.”"

Robert Fernandez, too had addressed these rumours in an optimistic manner.

"He had said, “It is a position that we are evaluating, there are many options and we will decide what we think is the best.If the market helps us, we will always try to improve, why not?”"

But things have reportedly changed. He stated that the negotiations for top players would be very challenging.

"In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he said, “Of course Hector is a good player. He is well known. He is playing at a great level but there are also other players that have good characteristics. Those [world-class] players are under contract with their respective clubs. And especially when a player has a long-term contract, it’s very difficult. We are open to bringing reinforcements, to sign a player, and always have in mind the idea of improving the team, but to improve Barcelona’s team, especially our first team, it’s very difficult because we have a magnificent side.”He added, “We have to give value to what we have.”"

As a result of what has transpired over the course of the season, we cannot definitely rule out this deal definitely. But at the current moment, Hector Bellerin looks unlikely to become a Blaugrana for the second time.
