Mundo Deportivo reported that Barca’s interest in Vitolo has solidified since his comment that he wanted to play for Barcelona. Initially, Robert Fernandez targeted Vitolo to add another attacking option to the squad, as the Canary Islander can play on both wings and also as a forward.

But now, Fernandez is after Vitolo’s signature, and is on the brink of contacting Sevilla president Pepe Castro. But there are some major problems with the deal. There are two new entrants in the race for Vitolo’s signature, both heavyweights. Manchester City’s Txixi Begiristan and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Luis Caminero are also in the race.

Other than the competition for Robert, the other factor is the fee. Sevilla will reject any offers that are lower than Vitolo’s release clause. And therefore, Barcelona will have to pay €40 million for him, which may be a fair price for a Spanish international, but since Vitolo is not a priority, it is a drawback.

Also, Robert Fernandez has never negotiated with the Seville club without the presence of Monchi, their technical director. Monchi has left Sevilla and is currently working for AS Roma. Therefore, unfamiliarity will creep in as Fernandez has been only in the job for a couple of years.

If all factors are considered, this transfer will be difficult to pull off. Also, the fact that Vitolo is not necessary for the squad makes it even harder to go all that way for nothing.

Barcelona finalise deal for youth player Mariano Konyk from Valencia

The phrase ‘Valencia is the new La Masia’ echoes in the latest deal Barca has completed. Mariano Konyk of Valencia will join Barcelona ‘B’ on July 1, 2017 on a free transfer. His contract will be running out and he has agreed to join the ‘B’ team.

This is very odd as Barcelona never sign U-20 players. Most of the youth players graduate from La Masia. This just goes to show the slow decline that is taking place at La Masia. Although Konyk may be a success and even go on to join the first-team, he will never be known as a Barca original.
