La Masia

Sergi Samper and Munir El Haddadi have both returned to the team after season-long loans last season. Rather than sending them away again, Valverde needs to utilize them because they have a clear understanding of Barcelona’s style.

Munir could be utilised as a capable back-up for Luis Suarez or even a wing role if needed. Samper has the potential to be a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets, and with key players such as Andrés Iniesta moving on from the club soon; this season is vital in order for him to learn from the best.

The Catalans also have the option of bringing back Gerard Deulofeu for €12m due to the buyback clause that is in his contract. They have to decide quickly, though, because this clause runs out at the end of June. He lacks consistency, but he would bring something different to the team. Bringing him in could be a short-term substitute for Dembélé, and then next season they could sell him on for a higher price if they bring in the French winger.

Valverde also needs to start bringing through some of the talented La Masia players such as Carles Aleñá, Sergi Palencia and Marc Cardona. Providing a route to the first team is vital in keeping a strong link with the academy. It also ensures that the team doesn’t go too far away from the roots that brought them such success.
