Conclusions

Ernesto Valverde’s preferred right-back target should be the priority for this transfer window. It’s understandable that the fans and potentially the board might want to splash the cash due to the success of main rivals Real Madrid this season, and because of the appointment of Valverde as the new manager. However, the Catalans only finished three points behind Los Blancos in the league, and a little bit of draw luck could have seen them get further in the Champions League.

Promoting internally and giving first team chances to the players previously sent out loan is key. The board could still go after Verratti after the right-back situation is solved, but they shouldn’t bank on getting him in this window.
