Barcelona and Germany number one goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen reflected on his 2016-17 season across his social media accounts.

After Claudio Bravo was sold to Manchester City, Marc Andre ter Stegen took over as Barcelona’s number one goalkeeper. With that responsibility, the German international got to play in a lot of important matches over the last season. In the end, the Barca campaign was disappointing and it only resulted in a Copa Del Rey trophy. However, ter Stegen got to serve as Germany’s number one goalkeeper in the FIFA Confederations Cup. It resulted in Germany winning the tournament with a 1-0 triumph over Claudio Bravo and Chile.

"“Last year I wrote after we lost the EURO 2016 semi-finals to France and I said that Die Mannschaft never gives up and that we would bounce back from this result. This summer in Russia we did just that. Many doubted us as we were a new and different team, but that didn’t stop us. I’m proud to say that our achievement is simply magnificent. A perfect end to my 2016/17 season! The German international wrote about his 2017 season on his social media accounts. He mentioned that Barca came up just short of a La Liga title and that Real Madrid were deserving winners. In addition to that, he mentioned that he remembered writing after Germany lost in the Euro 2016 semifinals to France. His prediction that Germany would bounce back from the tough defeat was correct as he led the team to a Confederations Cup title. Despite all of that, he was able to break a personal record at the club level for Barca.

"“For my club, FC Barcelona, I played 46 games. This is a new record for me. I had never played so many club matches in a season. In 2012/13 for my previous club I did 45 – so one game more! I helped us lift another Copa del Rey, my third in a row for the club; as well as the Supercopa at the start of the season.”Ter Stegen On Playing More Club Matches With Barca"

Another things that the German goalkeeper wrote about was how his contract got renewed with Barca. This means that ter Stegen will be at the club long-term after a very nice season protecting the net. Of course, there are many ways for Barca’s number one to improve. However, he has done many great things and he’s still only 25 years old. The sky is the limit for ter Stegen right now.

Overall, Ter Stegen has personally seen a lot of things go right for him. Even though Barca had a tough season, he managed to make his season successful. The Confederations Cup win was very big for him and Die Mannschaft. He will look to help the Blaugrana get back to the top of the European mountain in the Champions League. In addition, he will look to help Barca win La Liga once again. In the end, ter Stegen had a really successful summer.
