Three for One

Again, there is some debate over the release clause. Barcelona said PSG must meet it. PSG agreed to meet it. La Liga won’t let it happen. That’ll play out eventually, and, as ESPN FC reported, La Liga has no legal recourse in this matter. Soon enough, the move will go through and Barcelona will be flush with cash.

What can they do with €222 million? Buy three world class players if they want.

More from Everything Barca

Assuming they don’t end up shelling out nearly €100 million for Philippe Coutinho, which is what the media is reporting Liverpool requesting, most top players for sale could go in the region of €60-80 million.

With that money, there is a wealth of options. If Alexis Sanchez really wants away from Arsenal, could he make a Barca return? Will Dortmund be willing to let Ousmane Dembele go? Could they really poach Eden Hazard from Premier League champions Chelsea?

Kylian Mbappe has been thrown into the ring after requesting a move from Monaco. His teammate, Thomas Lemar, could also be on the move. Those are just the names in the news all the time. Often we get caught by surprise as well.

Prices can fluctuate and perhaps the €222 wouldn’t be quite enough, but give the club’s resources, they could go out and buy three brilliant players to replace Neymar before the transfer window closes.

To reiterate, losing Neymar is not ideal. The sudden death of MSN will be mourned, especially if he isn’t properly replaced or Barcelona simply can’t score goals. But gaps can be plugged, players can be replaced and money is money.

We’ve seen a battle to be the alpha at Real Madrid between Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Luis Suarez is a selfless player with no thirst for the limelight. Messi can be the undisputed superstar Cruyff would have wanted.

Things may take time after Neymar officially departs, but there is no need to panic.
