Javier Mascherano is a legend at Barcelona. But last season, he put up poor displays and subsequently lost his place to Samuel Umtiti. This can only be attributed to age. Mascherano has begun to decline, and he no longer deserves his FIFA 17 rating of 84.

EA should downgrade the Argentine defender by 1 rating. He has not declined massively, but is on the path towards the twilight of his career.
