RW Lionel Messi – 6.5

His influence grew as the game went on. Upon replay, Sergio Ramos clipped him in the box at the start of the second half but the ball was perhaps beyond Messi, so he was not awarded a penalty despite contact. Perhaps guilty of trying to dribble through people too often, but who can blame him? Finished the penalty in calm, cool fashion.

CF Luis Suarez – 7

Active early and often, as you’d expect. He had some great touches to spur moments where you thought Barcelona could score, including one great flick to send Vidal in, only to have the right back hold the ball too long. Doesn’t seem to fancy playing with Deulofeu either, showing his frustration with the 23-year-old on numerous occasions. Undoubtedly embellished the contact that earned his side a penalty but sold it anyway. His bad turnover gave Madrid the chance to counter and put the game out of reach through Asensio.

LW Gerard Deulofeu – 3

Not Neymar. When the ball was at his feet, he was either offside or unsuccessful in trying to find a teammate. Nearly every attempted cross or through ball got nowhere near where it should have been. Madrid were happy to let Barcelona’s play come from the left because they weren’t worried about the well-traveled youngster. Coutinho and/or Dembele, where art thou?
