Ernesto Valverde promised Sergi Roberto a spot in his favoured midfield this season. But he may not keep it. The already packed midfield has seen no departures and the addition of Paulinho will only be a hindrance to Sergi Roberto.

After having spent last season playing as a right-back, Roberto was hoping to make a comeback into the midfield. But the chances of him getting game time is getting slimmer by the day. According to Don Balon, Manchester United are trying to use this situation to their advantage.

They had expressed interest in the versatile Spaniard but have finally submitted a bid. United are offering to activate Roberto’s €40 million release clause. It seems that the Barcelona squad was better off without Paulinho. Now, because of him, the club might lose the flagbearer of La Masia in the squad.

Barcelona prepare immediate alternative if Coutinho and Dembele bid fails

Both Dortmund and Liverpool are extremely reluctant to let go of their young stars. But both the players are eager to join. While Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request, Ousmane Dembele has refused to train as a sign of protest.

But their clubs are demanding huge fees, most of which are not possible. This is why Barcelona is looking to another Premier League star to reinforce the left wing. Eden Hazard was a target earlier too, but Antonio Conte ruled out a move.

Now that Barcelona are having trouble negotiating for Coutinho and Dembele, the Catalans might go back in for Hazard. He would be available for a relatively low fee.

According to Diario Gol, Chelsea are demanding €120 million for the Belgian star. Barca can pay that fee, but have to compete with Real Madrid for his signature. Los Blancos are long-term suitors of Hazard and many Real coaches, including Zidane, have asked the Madrid club to sign him.

But Barca have a distinct advantage in this battle. Chelsea want Sergi Roberto. Conte wants him to provide competition to Victor Moses on the right flank. Barcelona can sweeten the Hazard deal by offering the potential wantaway and can even reduce the fee.

But currently, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele are the primary targets of the club. Eden Hazard is nothing but a contingency plan.
