Barcelona have a history of crises at certain positions, but that needs to change

Just four seasons ago,  José Manuel Pinto was starting in goal for Barcelona. Víctor Valdés was suffering from an injury, but the backup was not up to mark. Pinto was largely unsuccessful in blocking shots, and he announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Even last season, there was no depth in the right forward and the right-back position. Lionel Messi’s brilliance made up for lack of depth, but Sergi Roberto appeared uncomfortable in the full-back position.

But this season, there is no margin for error. Ernesto Valverde needs to make his first season in charge of Barcelona count. The squad is looking good, but the layout should be maintained throughout the season for proper resting of players.
