Barcelona will not be signing Philippe Coutinho this summer

Barcelona have finally given up the chase for Philippe Coutinho. The club pursued his signature with utmost determination but could not pull it off. Club officials did their best, and put up many offers, including one worth €150 million.

But Liverpool rejected every single offer. But nonetheless, it went down to the wire on transfer deadline day. In the end, the club has ruled out another bid. Philippe Coutinho learned this fact after he scored in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Ecuador.

According to Neymar, he was heartbroken.

"Neymar said, “Unfortunately, instead of being a happy time for him (Coutinho), for his family, it’s a moment of anguish, disappointment and sadness.I like to see him happy because he is a teammate and a friend that I’ve had for a long time.”"

Coutinho tried very hard to push through his move. He handed in a transfer request but Liverpool rejected it outright. Fenway Sports Group were still on their stance from the beginning till the end. Even Liverpool shareholder LeBron James attempted to convince the Liverpool board.

But Liverpool never budged. While their determination is admirable, it will result in dire consequences for Barcelona. The board has already lost the majority of its credibility, which is evident in the vote-of-no-confidence launched against them. And this will not contribute to their regaining the trust of the fans.

This window has been horrid for Barcelona. The Paulinho deal was very dodge, and Nelson Semedo has not yet proven himslef at right-back. It remains to be seen if Ernesto Valverde can make it work with this squad.
