Barcelona’s biggest summer signing Ousmane Dembele will be sidelined for at least three months with a thigh injury. Can the Catalan club continue their winning momentum without him?
Barcelona’s weekend La Liga win against Getafe came at a big expense to the Blaugranas. Club record signing Ousmane Dembele was forced off the pitch due to a thigh injury in the first half. It seemed as if the French youngster would only be sidelined for approximately 15 days, but bad news hit the club the next day following his medical results.

According to Barcelona’s statement on the injury, Dembele has “ruptured the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh” and requires surgery. The footballer will be out for at least three months and this has Barca fans grieving.

After Neymar’s corrupt departure from Camp Nou, many Cules began to worry about their side not having a complete squad for the season. However, their worries quickly vanished following the €145 million deal with Dembele.
The Frenchman is known for his quick speed, creative vision, and his artistic dribbles. And Barcelona knew he would succeed with the club. But his dream to play alongside Messi and co. is on a temporary hold after only two games in the Barca jersey.
Barcelona holds the top spot in both La Liga and Champions League table; however, they must keep their winning momentum going without the presence of the former Borussia Dortmund man.
The Catalan club still look strong despite losing Dembele, as they thrashed Eibar 6-1 at home on Tuesday. A super hat-trick from Lionel Messi and goals from Paulinho and Denis Suarez led to jubilation.
On Saturday’s fixture, Barca’s ace made supporters forget all about the 20-year old’s upsetting injury, netting four goals in one match. Something that has become very normal for the Argentine. Messi claimed his 39th hat-trick with his side and continues to amaze the world by breaking his own scoring records.

With only five league games, ‘La Pulga’ has already bagged nine goals making it his best ever tally. Dembele might not be missed as much as Barca fans had thought with Messi recording his best ever season start.
In addition, Gerard Deulofeu will use this time to prove his worth on the field. The La Masia graduate takes up the same position as Dembele and will be hoping to impress Valverde during the footballer’s absence. It is good that Deulofeu has started a few matches early in the season for Barca.
With an upcoming Catalan derby with Girona and a midweek Champions League group stage game against Sporting, Barca need to be in top form. Can they continue to play well without Ousmane Dembele? Only time will tell.
