Lionel Messi is close to writing history again, as the star player is only eight goals away from beating Gerd Muller’s historical record of most league goals.

Lionel Messi is at it again. From breaking his own scoring records to bagging back to back hat-tricks, Barcelona’s ace is recording his best ever start with the Catalan club.

And it is going to get even better for the 5’7” man. The player has the football world praising at his feet after nothing short of brilliant performances with Barcelona. In addition to his creative vision, the long-range shots and effective dribbles have everyone in awe, waiting to see what else he has under his sleeve.

Overall, the Argentine is enjoying his team on the field and his presence has been impossible to go unnoticed. He is thriving without Neymar on the pitch and is using the extra space to display his magic.

More from Everything Barca

Not only has he made a major impact on his team’s perfect start to the season, but his goal tally is unbelievable. With only five games played, Messi has already netted nine goals, including one brace, one hat-trick and one super hat-trick. Absolutely extraordinary.

No need to brag but Barca’s No. 10 has claimed nine goals thus far, while arch-rivals Real Madrid have scored nine all together as a team. Statistics that make you wonder.

However, there is one record the genius footballer has not achieved yet; but, he is well on his way to surpass it. Messi with 358 league goals is only eight away from beating Gerd Muller’s impressive record of 365 goals in a single European top five league. Muller set the bar of 365 goals in a total of 427 games played. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old has only appeared in 387 games. Different levels.

Knowing Messi’s style of play and his goal scoring feat, I would not be surprised if he reaches this feat in less than three matches. Overall, Messi is on a tear and continues to score goals at an alarming rate this season.

Although they had a bad transfer window, Barca are flying through their La Liga fixtures, taking the top spot with 15 points and their star player continues to make headlines across the world with his world-class goals and passes.
