FC Barcelona transfer rumour update – Timo Werner and Sergi Roberto
Chelsea the latest club to join the race for Sergi Roberto
Barcelona is going to fall in trouble in January if the club does not renew Sergi Roberto’s contract. The Spaniard’s contract has a €40 million release clause, and the top Premier League clubs are preparing to trigger it in January.
In fact, €40 million is a bargain for Roberto as he has emerged as one of the most important players in the squad. But the club may lose him in January. Both the Manchester clubs have already expressed in him.

Now, London giants Chelsea have come in for him. The Blues had expressed interest in signing Sergi Roberto in the summer but a move never materialised. Antonio Conte had asked his club to sign a backup to Victor Moses.
Chelsea targeted Davide Zappacosta and Sergi Roberto. But they signed Zappacosta ahead of Roberto. Now, they want to reinforce their midfield and in January, Chelsea are willing to pay €40 million to sign him.
But it is unlikely that Roberto would want to switch the Camp Nou for Stamford Bridge. He would have to compete with the likes of Tiémoué Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater for a first-team spot along with Cesc Fàbregas.
Barcelona tracking potential Paco Alcácer replacement Timo Werner
Timo Werner’s rise to the top has been rapid. The German forward broke through into the Stuttgart first-team in the 2013-14 season. In his very first season, he made 30 appearances for his club and amassed a total of 95 goals in his Stuttgart career. Last season, he sealed a €10 million move to RB Leipzig.
At Leipzig, he made a mockery of his small transfer fee, pumping in 21 goals in his first season. The top European clubs took notice of this, but that list did not include Barcelona until now. The Catalans will be competing with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for his signature.
The club has sanctioned the sale of Paco Alcácer in January and wants to bring in Werner as a replacement. Till date, Alcácer has not shown any signs of brilliance and cannot succeed Luis Suárez when he declines.

But Werner can. Barcelona should prepare a bid for the German international in January. It will be difficult to prise him away from Leipzig under the noses of his other suitors. But if Werner believes in the sporting project under Ernesto Valverde, he will always choose Barcelona.
