The saga regarding Andrés Iniesta’s contract will soon come to an end. The veteran midfielder had not spoken on the issue for weeks before making a statement a few days back. The board was under pressure about this issue and will heave a sigh of relief after Iniesta admitted that the club may soon announce his extension.

"Iniesta said, “I think the good news will arrive soon.”"

A few weeks back, Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta had ruled out a summer move for the star midfielder. But that still had not solved the problem. Iniesta was still having doubts in committing his future to Barcelona despite having stated that he would retire at the Camp Nou.

Finally, the situation may be over. But the board still has work to do on the contracts of some players. Last season, the club successfully negotiated the contracts of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitić and Luis Suárez.

But this season, some players need to get new contracts due to the release clause factor. Although Neymar signed a new deal last season, he still left for Paris Saint-Germain. Likewise, Barcelona are at risk of losing Sergi Roberto and Gerard Deulofeu due to their low release clauses.

Sergi Roberto’s release clause is worth €40 million and Gerard Deulofeu’s is worth €20 million. Since it almost matches their transfer market value, clubs will not hesitate to trigger their release clauses.

Barcelona need to renew their contracts, and more importantly, insert a release clause that is way above their valuation and unreasonable.
