Barcelona : Yerry Mina’s agent threatens to back down on agreement
Yerry Mina’s agent and uncle Jair Mina has threatened to back down on pre-contract agreement if Barcelona do not exercise option in January
Jair Mina is trying to create a transfer saga and promote his nephew in his latest publicity stunt. The agent is threatening to withdraw from the pre-contract agreement his client signed with Barcelona, to join the side after the completion of the World Cup in Russia.
But Jair Mina wants his client to switch clubs in January itself. It would not be a clear violation of the agreement, as Barcelona have the right to exercise the option whenever they deem fit. But it is certainly different from what had been agreed on principle.
"He said, “You cannot have doubts. If they want Yerry, perfect. Otherwise, no problem, other big teams are interested. Pep Segura [sporting manager of Barcelona] has to make a decision. They have been doubting [his signing] for a year and a half. We are going to sort it out soon, if they [Barcelona] do not want him he could go to another team.”"

But Ernesto Valverde is unsure as to how Mina would fit into the first-team picture if he arrives in January. He would certainly take some time to adapt to European football, and would need some time with the reserves.
Instead, Valverde wants players like Matthijs de Ligt to reinforce his defence. In the summer transfer window, he requested the club to sign Iñigo Martínez. But it was not possible and the club moved on to other targets.
Yerry Mina was never on the list of potential January arrivals as he would sign in the summer. But the player’s uncle has put the deal in doubt. Mina’s other representative Felipe Russo wants to uphold the pre-contract agreement but it is not so in the case of Jair Mina.

Yerry Mina is a great talent, but it is not worth this kind of trouble to bring him in. The club has got better targets in Kalidou Koulibaly and Matthijs de Ligt, and also have an option of recalling Marlon Santos next summer.
