Gerard Deulofeu Opens Up About His Career With FC Barcelona

Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu talked to the official Barcelona website about some of his thoughts on his Barcelona career.

Barcelona has seen a few new faces come into the team and produce well. Gerard Deulofeu is one of the players granted with the opportunity of playing time. The Spanish winger is very familiar with the Blaugrana, but his journey as a Barca player has seen many twists and turns. Of course, his professional career began with Barcelona but it took a few more places for him to find his footing.

His career began with a couple of moves on loan to teams in the English Premier League and Italian Serie A. In the summer of 2013, Deulofeu started with Premier League side Everton on a season-long loan. His impact was felt as he scored on his debut in August 2013. He would score 3 goals in 25 league appearances for the Toffees that season. Everton put up a 72 point, 5th place season with the contributions of Deulofeu.

After his loan to Everton, he came back to the Barca first-team under Luis Enrique. However to his surprise, Deulofeu was sent on loan again to fellow La Liga side Sevilla. After 28 appearances with Sevilla, he rejoined Everton on a permanent transfer. However, his stay with Everton included a loan move to AC Milan in Italy. After all of those moves, Barca triggered the buy-back clause and he was able to return to the Blaugrana.

Now that Deulofeu is back, he has been thrust into a big role this season. With Neymar gone, Ernesto Valverde has put the trust in some of the younger wingers including Deulofeu. The Spanish winger took the time to talk with the official website about how everything is going for him in his return to the Blaugrana.

Overall, Gerard Deulofeu will be counted on going forward for Barca. He will need to be better with his decision-making on the ball. However, his creativity is improving as the matches begin to get tougher. In addition to that, he’ll need to be more confident when he is playing. With teammates like Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, he should be able to play at his best. We will see if he can continue to be in the plans for Ernesto Valverde going forward.
