Lionel Messi has once again stunned the football world, this time reaching yet another incredible goal-scoring record against Villarreal.

Lionel Messi continues to rewrite the history books for Barcelona. The Argentine star has become the all-time top scorer for a single European club in the top five leagues. With 525 goals, he has equaled Bayern Munich legend Gerd Müller’s record.

Thanks to his goal against Villarreal in Sunday’s La Liga game which ended in a 2-0 win for the Catalans, Barça’s No.10 achieved this amazing feat.

His shot that found the back of the net in the 83rd minute was a perfect way to become the all-time top scorer, as it was something extraordinary. After a filtered pass through the middle by none other than Don Sergio Busquets, Messi took charge, controlled his best friend, the ball and used his astonishing speed to pass by two defenders in style before smashing the ball home.

There are a handful of aspects to analyze in Messi’s superb goal but let’s just focus on his unstoppable speed:

His quick feet accelerated, creating a burst of speed, that had grown men colliding into one another like infants. It’s too easy for the greatest of all time.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo getting his hands on the fifth Ballon d’Or, Barcelona’s star showed who really is the best player in history.

More from Everything Barca

Since his debut with the first team, 13 years ago on October 16, 2004, Messi has played 606 games as a Blaugrana.

This is not the first time, the 5’7” man has equaled or surpassed a record established by Müller. For instance, in 2012, the lethal playmaker set the record for goals (91) netted in a calendar year. Before Messi stepped into the scenes of European football, the German held the record with 81 goals for more than 40 years. That 2012 season was unforgettable for the sport.

However, the records don’t stop here for La Pulga. His next rivals to beat are two other all-time legends. Josef Bican and Brazilian legend Pelé have 534 and 643 career goals respectively. If we know anything about how great Messi is, he can certainly catch both of them.
