Despite remaining unbeaten and on top of the La Liga table, Barcelona were frustrated by Getafe in a scoreless draw at Camp Nou.

Barcelona has hit a bot of adversity for the first time since their Spanish Super Cup debacle against Real Madrid. That two-leg tie was one to forget for the Blaugrana as their rivals dominated both legs and won the trophy. Since then, Barca has only lost once in all competitions and they beat Real Madrid in La Liga action at the Bernabeu. However, Barca have dropped four points out of six in their last two league games.

First it was a 1-1 draw against their Catalonian rival Espanyol. Despite trailing 1-0 with less than 10 minutes to go, Gerard Pique salvaged a point for the Blaugrana. This came after a turbulent week for the Spanish central defender. However, he made a play for Barca to continue their unbeaten league run. Despite that run, Barca were unable to come up with a goal against Getafe at Camp Nou resulting in a scoreless draw.

Ernesto Valverde’s team did everything right in that match. The one thing that matters at the end is if the ball goes in the opposing teams net. That wasn’t the case on Sunday as Getafe held firm after losing a 1-0 lead in the second half of their last meeting with Barca. Despite the result, Barca remains at the top of La Liga with a 7 point lead on Atletico Madrid.

Captain Andres Iniesta noted that the team did struggle with a few things during the match. He mentioned that the breakthrough moment was hard to find. Getafe was well-organized for 90 minutes and managed to get an away point. Iniesta mentioned that and more to Barca TV after the match concluded.

"“It’s not that something was missing, we struggled to play with pace and continuity, but because of how the game went today. Getafe are always an uncomfortable side to play against and they don’t leave you that space to find that continuity. As the game went on, it was difficult and it proved impossible [to get the breakthrough], even though we tried until the end.”Andres Iniesta on the match against Getafe"

Overall, Barcelona is still in a good spot going into their Champions League encounter with Chelsea. The last league match before that is a road tilt against Eibar. The Blaugrana have to focus on that match and every match is becoming a must win for Barca. They don’t want Atletico to creep up on them in the standings. Barca must find a way to continue to take care of business against teams like Eibar.
