Since arriving at the Camp Nou, Andre Gomes has suffered a serious amount of criticism and after two years in the Barca kit, the midfielder has opened up on his problems both on and off the field.

Barcelona signed the Portuguese player back in July of 2016 and despite his several first decent months with the Catalan club, the rest of his journey in Catalonia has been nothing but pressure for the 24-year-old footballer.

"“I don’t feel good on the pitch and I am not enjoying what I am doing,” Gomes revealed in a recent interview with Spanish magazine Panenka.“Maybe it’s not the right word to use, but it has turned into a kind of hell because I have started to feel more pressure. With pressure, I feel fine, but with the pressure [I put] on myself, I don’t. The feeling that I have during games is bad.”"

In Barca’s recent match against Atletico Madrid, the Portuguese midfielder was booed on multiple occasions by the Camp Nou crowd, which resulted in both Ter Stegen and coach Ernesto Valverde waving their hands and shouting at the boo birds.

And this has not been the first time Gomes has received criticism from Blaugrana supporters, it also occurred back in March of 2017.

All this pressure has been piling on Gomes, as he now has a fear of leaving his own house due to the pressure and the looks he will receive from people. However, despite his struggle in Barcelona, he declared his teammates have been very supportive during these past couple months.

"“On more than one occasion, I didn’t want to leave my house because [of the way] people look at you,” he added. “You have fear of going on the street out of shame.“I close myself off. I don’t allow myself to get rid of the frustration I have. I don’t talk to anybody. It’s like I feel ashamed. Thinking too much has hurt me. I think about the bad things and what I have to do.“My teammates help me a lot but things don’t work out the way they want them to work out. In training, I am generally relaxed although there can be days when I feel a little low on confidence and it’s noticeable. Maybe I played the day before and I still have the image of the game in my head and that doesn’t let me move forward.”"

Although Andre Gomes has yet to find his form with the Catalans, it is worth remembering that he was a quality player at Valencia. He might not be Barcelona star quality, but that does not mean the team’s own fans should throw jeers at him, making things worse for an already uncomfortable Gomes. The fans must respect him not only as a footballer but also as a human being.
