In Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Chelsea on Wednesday, Lionel Messi achieved yet another milestone as he scored his 100th Champions League goal.

Lionel Messi came into the Chelsea match needing only two goals to reach 100 Champions League goals. The Argentine magician has scored at least two goals in a Champions League match 27 times in his career. Despite being capable of doing that, he had only scored once against Chelsea in his career. That goal came in the first leg of this years tie after a defensive error. However, Messi wasn’t going to be denied again. Once again, Barcelona’s number 10 shined on the stage of Europe’s top club competition.

Messi achieved the milestone while also putting on another dominant performance in an important match. He scored twice and assisted Ousmane Dembele for another as Barcelona beat Chelsea 3-0 in the second leg and 4-1 on aggregate to reach the Champions League quarterfinals next month. At this point, Barca fans are used to Messi putting on a show for every crowd he plays in front of.

The first of his two goals arrived very early and sent the crowd into a frenzy. In the third minute, he played a good combination with Dembele and a deflection led to Luis Suarez passing him the ball in the box. Despite it being a very impossible angle to score, he ended up making it possible by nutmegging Thibaut Courtois for the opening goal.

In addition to his great start, Messi wasn’t done creating magic. Before he got his brace, he set up Dembele’s first career goal for Barcelona. This was made possible after former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas made a costly defensive error. If an error is made and Messi is around, it will likely get punished.

Overall, Messi was able to reach this historic milestone in one night. In the second half, Messi got his brace and his 100th Champions League goal. Luis Suarez was the creator once again as Messi megged Courtois again. Scoring a goal through the goalkeepers leg once is pretty tough for the keeper. However, allowing two from the same player in the same game is just unlucky. Then again, Messi isn’t lucky. He’s just brilliant and it’s almost certain that he’ll continue to dominate.
