David Costas

The on-loan centre-back has been one of the most consistent performers in the Segunda División. In his 26 appearances, he has done well to keep the opposition attacks at bay. He was even called up to the first-team squad in January, when Javier Mascherano was out injured.

Most probably, the club will activate the purchase option in Costas’ loan contract at the end of the season. He might even get a call-up to the first-team squad. Yerry Mina and Marlon Santos will not be able to feature due to registration rules, and Costas can be an internal solution.

His promotion would signal that the management is ready to take a bet on young talents, like it was in the days of Xavi and Valdés. It would present a low-cost option, which would pay off when Gerard Piqué would begin to decline.
