Barcelona have used Aleix Vidal efficiently, utilising his versatility to back up Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembélé. He has delivered with decent performances, justifying his €17 million price tag.

Although he has had injury problems, he has done well in the performances off the bench. But he never truly earned himself a place in the first-team. The club signed him to replace Dani Alves, but he lost out to Sergi Roberto.

This summer may spell the end of Aleix Vidal’s Barcelona career. Some clubs from the Premier League are interested in him, and the management is going to be inclined to accept bids of sufficient size.

The signing of Nélson Semedo means that Vidal is no longer required to fill in at right-back, while his role as backup on the right hand side of midfielder to Dembélé can be filled by a promoted player from the B team.

Ernesto Valverde has also given the go-ahead for his departure. He has monitored Vidal’s progress all season, and has observed no improvement in his game. Also, his age has come into consideration. He is 28, and his transfer value is going to start to drop soon.
