The actual successor to Neymar has emerged in Brazil. At Santos, Jair Ventura has uncovered a diamond in the rough in the form of 17-year old Rodrygo Goes. The youngster has shown the potential required to follow in Neymar’s footsteps at the Estádio Urbano Caldeira.

Rodrygo Goes was called up to the Santos senior team under interim coach Elano. He made his debut in the Copa Libertadores under Jair Ventura against Real Garcilaso. Since then, he has done very well in all the games he has played, showing startling resemblance to Neymar.

Goes has made a total of 18 appearances in all competitions this season, and has scored 5 goals. Despite playing as a midfielder in the Santos academy, Ventura has used him as a left-sided forward this season, like Neymar.

Barcelona scouts in Brazil have taken note of his rapid development, and have recommended him to the club management as a potential signing for next season’s January transfer window, when he turns 18.

Barça will try to use the same strategy it used to sign Neymar to sign Rodrygo Goes. The club’s representatives are currently trying to tie up a pre-contractual agreement with Goes, in which case, Santos will be powerless to stop him from leaving.

But it will not be inexpensive to sign Goes. His release clause stands at €50 million, which is a pretty steep fee for an inexperienced footballer with no caps for the senior team. But hopefully, he will gain more experience by the time Barça get ready to sign him.
