Does Antoine Griezmann’s signing mean the end of Luis Suárez’s Barcelona career?

Ousmane Dembélé turned some heads with his mesmerising performance at the Camp Nou in the 5-1 demolition of Villarreal. The young Frenchman showed some delightful skills as he scored a brace for the first time in his Barça career.

Earlier, he was being linked with a loan move away from the Camp Nou to make way for Antoine Griezmann on the right. The Griezmann deal is all but done, and he will be joining the club at the beginning of the transfer window.

But Dembélé might not be the player leaving to make space for Antoine Griezmann. With the season set to end in a couple of weeks, the management might consider offloading the ageing Luis Suárez.

Antoine Griezmann would be an excellent replacement for Suárez. The Uruguayan has slowed down considerably, and while his dribbling skills remain intact, his offside awareness and his co-ordination with teammates has deteriorated.

Griezmann is pacy, makes darting runs into the box, is a brilliant dribbler and has a very complete understanding with his teammates. Although he has been statistically inferior to Suárez this season, he hasn’t been totally reliant on his teammates for his goals.

But if Luis Suárez leaves the club, there will be huge repercussions. Firstly, the management would have to deal with backlash from Lionel Messi, who is a very close friend of ‘El Pistolero’. Also, Suárez hasn’t totally aged, so it wouldn’t be the wisest sporting decision as well.

But regardless, the club should let him go before he loses his value in the transfer market and becomes a deadweight in the squad.
