Barcelona have had a properly organised transfer window this season. All the transfers that the club has made have resulted from long and extensive negotiations, most notably Ousmane Dembélé and Philippe Coutinho.

In fact, neither Borussia Dortmund nor Liverpool were willing to let go of their stars, but they were convinced by the size of fee, which needed some detailed discussions. After the completion of the January transfer window, the club had formulated a proper transfer strategy for the summer.

The club had planned to go forward with targeting two signings, a centre-back and a forward. With the signing of Antoine Griezmann almost sealed, the club had intended to weigh up the shortlisted players for the centre-back position. Also, the management wanted to delay the Arthur deal.

But Lucas Digne, Denis Suárez and André Gomes are being linked with a move away from the Camp Nou. If Digne leaves, the management needs to prepare the signing of a proper replacement for the Frenchman.

And if either Denis Suárez and André Gomes leave, the club needs to accelerate the Arthur deal. In that case, Carles Aleñá may moved to the left to cover for Philippe Coutinho. But regardless, Barcelona need to prepare for all possibilities.

The transfer market has become fickle, and a big-money offer for a player may be irresistible for the club. In that case, the management needs to draw up a list of players who may leave, and prepare a shortlist of potential replacements.
