Barcelona B’s spell in the Segunda division has come to an end after one season.

On Sunday evening, things took a turn in Barcelona as their B side were relegated to Second Division B. Despite putting in a decent performance against Albacete, the Blaugrana were not able to bag any points, as the match ended in a scoreless draw. Therefore, Barcelona B are now set to compete in Second Division B next season under the orders of Garcia Pimienta.

It has been a very damaging season, to say the least for the Catalan side. Their performances have been poor throughout their struggling fight to stay afloat in the league, and their relegation will serve to reflect and discuss important subjects in order to avoid repeating their drop.

It is reported that Garcia Pimienta will most likely opt for more La Masia players in the upcoming season, in hopes to get his team back to where they belong, in the Second Division.

However, they will not be able to count on central midfielder Carles Alena for their crucial fight to the top next season; Ernesto Valverde recently announced the Spaniard will be promoted to the first team.

In addition, the B side might even lose defensive midfielder Oriol Busquets to the Catalan giants. El Txingurri admitted he wants the player to join Lionel Messi and Co. but everything will depend on his recovery from the serious injury he picked up back in February.

A season to forget

Barca B have endured a tough season with many setbacks including a change of coach in the latter stages and their figures in the Second Division paint the story of painful losses and sluggish performances. Only 10 wins in the entire competition, while picking up 14 draws and suffering 17 defeats. A season to forget for a team with such high expectations.

Now that it is over, the club must go back to the drawing boards and begin to plan their future. Let’s hope that includes the presence of more La Masia players with the DNA of what this team is all about. However, without Alena and possibly Busquets, things might get trickier for the Catalan side.

Time will tell if Barcelona B can rediscover their winning form and find their way back to La Liga 123.
