Thiago Alcântara was part of the golden generation of players who shaped the Barcelona treble-winning teams. This generation of La Masia graduates include Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Sergi Roberto.

Even though Alba left the academy to join Cornellà and Thiago left for Bayern Munich, the group interacted each other frequently and met often in the Spain setup. With Thiago on the transfer market, these players have asked the management to sanction his signing.

He would be a very good addition to the squad. His attacking prowess and his defensive contribution makes him the complete package, comparable to legendary Culé Xavi, who left a huge void in the squad when he joined Al-Sadd after winning the treble under Luis Enrique.

Barcelona have searched for successors to Xavi, and the best they have come up with is Ivan Rakitić. The Croatian midfielder has been excellent, no doubt, but he is not anywhere close to Xavi’s skill and talent. Thiago, in that regard, is closer to the footballing great.

Niko Kovač hasn’t included Thiago in his plans, and as a result, the 27-year old midfielder is on the transfer list. But Bayern do not plan on offloading him cheaply. Initially, they are expected to ask for €80 million.

But Barça need to negotiate, and attempt to reduce the fee to a more reasonable amount, like €50 million. If the club goes in for Thiago, the playmaker will give his consent. After all, he grew up in Barcelona and matured as a footballer at the Camp Nou.
