Barcelona’s plan to re-sign Gerard Deulofeu from Everton after offloading him a couple of seasons ago was a huge failure in terms of his sporting contribution. The pacy winger had a fallout with Ernesto Valverde, and got limited opportunities to showcase his talent.

If he would have stayed at the club, the 24-year old forward would have got more playing time as backup to first-choice winger Ousmane Dembélé. But that is not looking to be the case now. Deulofeu impressed at Watford, and the Hornets are interested in signing him permanently.

Watford are said to have submitted an offer of €13 million, which has been reportedly accepted by Barcelona. In that case, this entire operation would be financially sound, even if was poor in terms of sporting aid for the club.

The club brought Deulofeu back to the Camp Nou for €12 million, and it will make a profit of €1 million on his sale, which is good business. But the management should have made more use of him during his time at the club.

Barça had demanded that Watford activate his €20 million release clause to sign him. But they refused and entered into negotiations, and finally, both parties agreed on a fee of €13 million. It is better than nothing, which is what the club would have got if Deulofeu left on a free transfer after his contract expired next summer.

The deal will also consist of €2 million in bonuses and variables, based on his performances at Vicarage Road. Overall, this a good deal for Barcelona.
