Barcelona : What does Lenglet signing mean for Mina?
Barcelona have taken a U-turn on Yerry Mina’s future at the club
After Paulinho was offloaded to his former club Guangzhou Evergrande on loan, it seemed as if the 29-year old Brazilian midfielder left to accommodate Yerry Mina in the squad. On the connection of the dots, that seemed the most logical conclusion.
Yerry Mina had a brilliant World Cup. He scored 3 crucial goals for Colombia. He started attracting interest from top European clubs and hence, the club should have realised that he was a good prospect for the future and that he deserved a second opportunity.

But the club has chosen not to retain Yerry Mina. He will be naturally pushed out with the signing of Clément Lenglet from Sevilla. His status as a non-European player is not being challenged by the presence of Paulinho in the squad, but the club will offload him nonetheless.
Mina has an offer of €24 million from Everton. The Toffees are competing with fierce Merseyside rivals Liverpool for the signature of the towering Colombian. But before making a decision on his future, Mina should wait for contact from the club management.
The management can have different plans too. The right-left balance in the squad’s defence has been a key part of Ernesto Valverde’s plans and tactics. Mina’s replacement by Lenglet in the defence would lead to the upsetting of that balance.

The defence would have three left-footed player and just the one right-footed defender, Gerard Piqué. The club might just choose to keep Yerry Mina in the squad, and move on Thomas Vermaelen, who is 32 years old and injury-prone.
