Barcelona name asking price for wantaway Lucas Digne

Lucas Digne has been the subject of speculation in recent months

Lucas Digne is a decent player. He has done moderately well when called upon by Ernesto Valverde, but his style of play does not suit that of Barcelona. But the 24-year old Frenchman hasn’t been able to provide Jordi Alba with competition.

Alba is still the undisputed starter and he is 29. Although it is still too early to start planning for the future regarding the left-back position, Alba needs a successor in the first-team, and Lucas Digne is certainly not going to be that player.

Digne has no long-term future at the club. The youngster has realised that, he has put in a transfer request. The management has agreed to grant him a move away from the club, and have also named their asking price for the 24-year old left-back, €16 million.

The club signed him from Paris Saint-Germain two summers ago for a fee of €14 million, after he had impressed in a two-season loan spell at Roma. If a club agrees to match Barça’s demands, the club will get a small, quick profit with the funding for a replacement for the possibly departing Jasper Cillessen .

Everton are interested in signing Lucas Digne. They are the only club whose interest in Digne is not contingent on any other factor. Juventus would sign him to replace Alex Sandro, and Bayern would only sign him if backup left-back Juan Bernat leaves.

The Toffees need a successor to veteran full-back Leighton Baines, who has slowed down in recent seasons. They are also interested in 23-year old Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina, and the transfer could be a double deal, with a full-on raid on the Barça defensive unit.
