The Spanish league schedule has been released for next season with kick-off just under a month away.

Barcelona start their title defence by hosting Alaves on the 18/19 August weekend; the exact date and time of the fixture is yet to be released. The Catalans will have played a number of games by then, though, because they have the International Champions Cup friendlies, the Spanish Super Cup final in Tangiers as well as the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Boca Juniors.

The last game of the season is on 19 May with a trip to Eibar. In terms of key fixtures, the first El Clasico is currently scheduled for the 27/28 October weekend with the return fixture on the 2/3 March weekend. The first El Clasico comes at the end of a tough period for Barcelona because they play Valencia, Sevilla and Real Madrid consecutively with an international break sandwiched inbetween.

There is another challenging group of fixtures not long after that because Barcelona’s first game against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on the 24/25 November is preceded by Real Betis and followed by Villarreal and Espanyol.

The same four fixtures are together in the second half of the season even though La Liga now follows an asymmetric schedule. Barcelona’s match at Camp Nou against Atletico is on the 6/7 April.

Real Sociedad are likely to be the first real test of the season when Barcelona travel to the Anoeta in matchday four. However, aside from that the start to the season should be relatively easy, which gives the new players an ideal chance to adjust before the key games. The two tough spells in the first half of the season will also have Champions League and Copa del Rey games around them, so rotation is key.
