Barcelona : Everton close to sealing Lucas Digne deal
Marcel Brands has been in constant contact with Barcelona
Everton are very close to signing Lucas Digne. Their sporting director Marcel Brands recently flew into the Catalan capital to iron out the final details. The fee has been agreed at around €22 million, which would allow Barcelona to make a profit of €8 million.
Toffees new manager Marco Silva has been vocal about his interest in working with Lucas Digne. Leighton Baines is 33, and the Everton vice-captain has already started declining. Lucas Digne is a very good replacement for the veteran Englishman.

The 24-year old French left-back has a lot of room for growth, and he has the ability to be a success in the Premier League. If this deal goes through, it would be a very good piece of business and would be another display of Éric Abidal’s guile on the negotiating table.
As for Digne’s replacement, the club already has Marc Cucurella. The 19-year old La Masia graduate did well for Barcelona B last season, and he deserves a call-up to the first-team squad. The youngster could act as a proper backup to Jordi Alba.
The announcement of Digne’s departure will be made next week. As for Ernesto Valverde’s plans for the immediate future, Marc Cucurella will be getting a lot of playing time, with Jordi Alba on extended leave after his stint with the Spain national team in the World Cup.
Digne can also expect to make adaptations in order to fit in Goodison Park. Marco Silva plans to play a three-player defence in the upcoming season, and the Frenchman can be called into action out of position when required.
