He was joined in the treatment table by fellow midfielder Denis Suárez, who was replaced by Barcelona B star Carles Pérez. But more importantly, the injury to the 24-year old Portuguese playmaker messes up the club’s transfer plans for the summer.
Éric Abidal had been planning to ship out the midfielder, who has been a failure at the Camp Nou. The Frenchman had found several suitors too, most notably Arsenal. But now that he is out for 2 months, the club will need to totally alter its transfer plans to suit this new development.
The departures of André Gomes and Rafinha was supposed to fund a move for a new defensive midfielder. But Inter didn’t match Barça’s demands, and now, André Gomes’s injury has scared off suitors, who had not intensified their interest earlier too, due to his poor reputation.
Now, the head coach needs to figure out a way to integrate André Gomes into his plans for the rest of the season. By the time he returns from injury, the transfer window will have already closed. And as for Éric Abidal, he should look to offload Rafinha before the transfer window ends.
