Thomas Tuchel could be key in tempting Ousmane Dembele to join PSG.

Barcelona have had a busy but effective transfer window this summer as they have been able to bring in four players for the senior side as well as getting rid of a number of unwanted players. However, there is still over two weeks left before the transfer market shuts in Spain and some of the other top leagues, so there could still be a major outgoing in that time.

According to Mundo Deportivo, PSG are heavily interested in Ousmane Dembele as they want to reunite him with national side teammate Kylian Mbappe. Barcelona would consider a bid if it is higher than or matches the amount they spent on the youngster, but the ideal scenario would be to keep him.

Dembele would work perfectly with Mbappe and Neymar in a front three because he could take the right-wing spot and all three players would be playing in their preferred position. Currently, Edinson Cavani’s clinical nature and position in the hierarchy of the squad means he plays as the centre-forward with Mbappe on the right.

PSG appointed Tuchel in the summer due to the belief that he can build a cohesive attacking unit with the talented individuals they have, and finally bring the Champions League glory they crave. He worked with Dembele in the French winger’s one season at Borussia Dortmund, which earned him a move to Barcelona.

The forward-thinking German manager was able to get the best out of Dembele and made him one of his key attacking players. Dortmund finished second in the league as well as winning the DFB-Pokal and reaching the Champions League quarter-finals in the 2016/17 season. However, Tuchel fell out with the board so he and Dembele ended up both leaving that summer. Therefore, he might be convinced that working under his former manager is a more attractive proposition than where he is currently at.

A move would be a bad decision for his career as well as for Barcelona, though. Consistent playing time in La Liga will aid his development a lot more than Ligue 1 due to the higher level of competition. He’s also more likely to win the Champions League with Barcelona and vice-versa.

Having another game-changer in the team makes the Catalans a lot more dangerous and takes some of the responsibility off Lionel Messi in big games. It’s also beneficial to have more than one talented winger because of the width they provide, which ensures that the other forwards have more space to work in as well as ensuring the opposition full-backs are tested. Aiming to get his transfer fee back or making a profit is a mistake because he has the potential to be a top player.
