After being trained to succeed 35-year old Brazilian centre-back Naldo as the central figure in defence, Thilo Kehrer has left his boyhood club Schalke in favour of a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain, joining compatriot Julian Draxler.

Schalke are on the lookout for a replacement for the 21-year old versatile centre-back, and their search have led them to Marlon Santos. The Brazilian defender is looking for a way out of Barcelona, and the Königsblauen would be very happy to oblige him.

Marlon was recalled from loan by the management after Southampton expressed interest in signing him. But after he returned from Nice, the Saints went for Jannik Vestergaard instead. On deadline day for the English transfer window, two loan moves fell through.

Sunderland and Newcastle were interested in signing Marlon on loan, but the 22-year old centre-back was denied a work permit due to his inexperience on the international level. But now, his hopes of a transfer have been reignited.

Schalke want a physical defender like him, and they will probably not be restricted from signing the Brazilian defender by the DFB, which, along with the FFF, is much more lenient on giving work permits than the English FA.

They will also not have a problem with non-EU players, offloading Ghanian striker Bernard Tekpetey this summer. Schalke are expected to submit a bid in the region of €15 million, which would be highly profitable for the club, considering that he was signed for a mere €5 million.
